Commercial Umbrella, or a Business Catastrophe Liability policy (BCL), will provide your business with the extra liability coverage in case your General Liability policy limits are not enough to cover a claim made against your business by the third party.

The policy limits normally start at $1,000,000 and go up in the increments of one million. You need to have a General Liability policy in place with the limits of no less than $1,000,000/$2,000,000 in order to get a Commercial Umbrella policy.

BCL can be inexpensive and you will have a $1,000,000 of extra coverage protecting your business. If your business is sued for $1.5 million and you have a $1,000,000 umbrella, the General Liability will cover the $1 million and the Umbrella will cover the remaining $500,000.
